ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has advised Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar to stay away from bar elections and other bar-related matters amid his ongoing controversy with senior lawyer Ahsan Bhoon.
Speaking about the issue, Tarar said Safdar was a respectable person but was neither a lawyer nor a member of the bar.
“Ahsan Bhoon is also a respectable person and enjoys considerable respect within the legal fraternity,” Tarar said.
The law minister described remarks made against Bhoon during the election period as a “cheap stunt” and urged public figures to exercise caution when speaking on television and other media platforms.
The controversy began after Safdar questioned the law degree of a candidate for the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) presidency and called for verification of the credentials of several senior lawyers, including Bhoon.
Safdar has also announced the formation of the Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah Group, saying it would participate in the upcoming SCBA elections.
