At least one person was killed and six others, including children, were injured after a Russian strike hit the Academy of Sciences building in Kyiv on Monday, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In a statement on X, Zelenskyy said Russian forces also struck a medical facility in central Kyiv, where emergency crews were working to extinguish a fire caused by the attack.
The Ukrainian president said other Russian strikes targeted civilian facilities, businesses and communications infrastructure in Dnipro, as well as locations in other Ukrainian cities and regions.
“Russia will definitely face a response to this,” Zelenskyy said, adding that Russia “must be held accountable for all of this and face real consequences.”
Separately, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that a total of 19 residents of the Ukrainian capital were injured in Russian attacks throughout the day.
Authorities were continuing to assess the damage and casualties from the strikes.
