Italy head coach Roberto Mancini has dismissed questions about Manchester City’s reported breaches of Premier League financial regulations and allegations concerning a “double contract” during his time as manager of the English club.
Reports on Friday said Manchester City had been found guilty of all but one of 115 charges relating to alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules. The club is expected to appeal, while any potential sanctions have yet to be determined.
Speaking ahead of Italy’s UEFA Nations League match against Türkiye, Mancini said the controversy did not concern him.
“It’s not an issue that concerns me. It’s nothing new because this matter has been discussed for the last four or five years,” Mancini said.
“Manchester City has not been found guilty, and the alleged double contract is not my concern. It’s their issue, not mine.”
Mancini managed Manchester City from 2009 to 2013, winning the FA Cup in 2011 before guiding the club to the 2011-12 Premier League title — its first English top-flight championship in 44 years.
Among the Premier League charges were allegations that City failed to provide complete details of payments made to Mancini between the 2009-10 and 2012-13 seasons.
German publication Der Spiegel previously reported that Mancini received £1.75 million annually for a consultancy role with Abu Dhabi club Al Jazira, an amount exceeding his reported £1.45 million basic annual salary as Manchester City manager.
Following Friday’s reports, Manchester City maintained that the case had not concluded, saying the “Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality.”
The club has consistently denied wrongdoing and is expected to challenge any adverse findings through the available appeals process.
