The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday granted investigators access to the bank accounts and transaction records of late entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali as part of the ongoing investigation into his death.
A single-member bench approved an application filed by the prosecution seeking permission to examine the financial records.
During the hearing, prosecutors told the court that investigators wanted to trace where funds from Ali’s accounts had been transferred and identify the recipients as part of a comprehensive probe.
“We want to review the transactions to determine where the money was transferred and to whom,” the prosecution told the court.
The court was informed that bank officials had advised investigators to approach the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for access to the records. The SBP, however, maintained that the information could not be provided for investigative purposes without a court order.
The prosecution subsequently sought judicial authorisation, which the SHC granted, clearing the way for investigators to obtain and examine the relevant banking and transaction details.
The development comes as a judicial commission continues a separate inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death.
The Sindh cabinet recently extended the commission’s tenure until October 15, allowing it additional time to record evidence, examine witnesses and complete its findings.
The commission has already heard from Ali’s family members as well as officials from the Sindh Home Department, police and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee as part of its investigation.
