Pakistan Power Shortfall Exceeds 4,000MW As Loadshedding Increases

Jarida Report

LAHORE: Pakistan’s electricity shortfall has exceeded 4,000 megawatts, worsening the power crisis across the country, according to NTDC sources.

Several power plants have gone offline, while hydel generation has also declined. Lahore is facing a gap of around 1,000MW, with demand at 4,000MW against supply of 3,000MW.

Loadshedding of three to four hours has begun in urban and rural areas, with DISCOs reportedly increasing outage durations.

Meanwhile, NEPRA has ordered K-Electric to stop unannounced load shedding based on losses, declaring the practice illegal.

The regulator said consumers who regularly pay their bills should not face outages because of high-loss feeders. It directed K-Electric to target individual electricity-theft connections and introduce measures, including ABC cables, to reduce technical and commercial losses.
