Neymar Retires from International Football After Brazil’s World Cup Exit

Jarida Report

Brazil forward Neymar has announced his retirement from international football following his country’s 2-1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking after the match, the 34-year-old said: “I tried. I tried. It started here at MetLife Stadium and I finished here. It is now over.”

Neymar scored Brazil’s only goal from the penalty spot in stoppage time, but it was not enough to prevent the five-time world champions from being eliminated.

He retires as Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer, with 80 goals in 130 international appearances. Neymar made his senior debut in 2010 after beginning his professional career with Santos in 2009 and also helped Brazil win the Olympic gold medal in 2016.
