The body of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was carried through Tehran on Monday as mourners gathered for the main funeral procession, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.
The procession is part of multi-day funeral ceremonies following Khamenei’s death in a joint US-Israeli attack on Iran on Feb. 28, which triggered weeks of conflict in the region.
Official funeral ceremonies began on Friday, with foreign leaders and delegations from several countries attending to pay their respects.
According to the official schedule, the funeral rites will continue in Qom on July 7 before moving to Baghdad, Najaf and Karbala on July 8. The final funeral and burial ceremony is scheduled for July 9 at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad.
