The United States carried out a ninth consecutive day of military strikes against Iran on Monday as the number of confirmed US military deaths increased and concerns mounted over security in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it had launched “a new wave of strikes” aimed at degrading Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping along the strategic waterway.
CENTCOM did not provide further operational details. However, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that US missiles struck several cities early Monday, including Tabriz, Chabahar, Konarak, Bandar Mahshahr and Bandar Imam Khomeini.
Separately, the US military announced that an American service member was killed on Saturday in northern Iraq during the controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance recovered from a downed Iranian attack drone.
Earlier over the weekend, the US military confirmed that two American service members were killed in an Iranian attack in Jordan, while a third was initially reported missing. On Sunday, CENTCOM said unidentified remains had been recovered from the attack site and were undergoing forensic examination.
According to the latest US military figures, the renewed conflict has resulted in 17 American military personnel killed and more than 420 others wounded since hostilities began.
