Gas supplies to Quetta and several other parts of Balochistan were suspended on Thursday after an explosion damaged a major pipeline near Gokurt in the Bolan area, officials said.
According to Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) officials, an explosive device damaged an 18-inch-diameter gas pipeline near its valve assembly, located about 800 metres from the National Highway.
The blast disrupted supplies to Quetta, Kolpur, Mach, Mastung, Kalat, Pishin and Ziarat, leaving residents and businesses across several districts without gas.
Flames erupted from the damaged pipeline following the explosion, while authorities secured the surrounding area to allow safety inspections and further investigation.
SSGC said its repair teams were ready to reach the site but would begin work only after receiving security clearance. Engineers and technical personnel will then assess the extent of the damage before restoration work gets underway.
The company has not yet provided a timeframe for the resumption of gas supplies.
The outage is expected to affect households and businesses dependent on the pipeline network for cooking and other everyday needs, with the extent of disruption depending on how quickly repair crews can safely restore the damaged section.
