US and China Begin Geneva Talks to Ease Escalating Trade War

Jarida Report

On May 10, 2025, senior U.S. and Chinese officials commenced trade negotiations in Geneva to address the intensifying tariff dispute disrupting global markets. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer met with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, marking the first high-level dialogue since the U.S. imposed 145% tariffs on Chinese imports, prompting China’s 125% retaliatory tariffs. President Trump suggested reducing tariffs to 80%, but no formal agreement has been reached. The talks are viewed as a tentative step toward de-escalation.
