On May 15, 2025, Swedish prosecutors clarified that recent arrests made by the country’s intelligence service, Sapo, involving a Kurdish representative and a Swedish diplomat, are not connected to the case of journalist Joakim Medin, who is currently detained in Turkey on terrorism charges. Public broadcaster Sveriges Radio had suggested a link between the arrests and Medin’s situation, but prosecutors emphasized that the investigation is an individual case with no ties to other ongoing legal proceedings in Sweden or abroad. Both suspects have been released but remain under investigation for “aggravated unauthorized handling of secret information.”
