Maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is expected to increase gradually following the peace agreement between the United States and Iran, although a return to pre-war shipping levels could take several months as uncertainties persist over the full reopening of the strategic waterway.
The conflict, which began with US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, ended after negotiations that led to a ceasefire agreement. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the deal includes the cessation of military operations across the region, including in Lebanon.
US President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz is expected to be fully reopened on Friday under the agreement, adding that most naval mines in the area would be cleared to restore safe passage.
The strait is one of the world’s most important energy routes, carrying a significant share of global oil and gas exports, making its reopening a key development for international energy markets and trade.
