Lahore police have decided to ensure the 24-hour presence of women police officers at all 84 police stations across the city, aiming to provide women with safer access to assistance and legal support at any time of day.
According to police, the initiative is intended to create a secure environment for women to register complaints and seek assistance, particularly during nighttime hours.
DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran said the deployment would ensure that women faced no difficulty in approaching police stations after dark.
He said complaints involving domestic violence, harassment and other issues affecting women would receive an immediate response, adding that the initiative was intended to make the police more accessible and trustworthy for female complainants.
The decision follows two recent incidents involving women and girls at Lahore police stations that raised serious concerns over their safety in police custody.
In one case, a police assistant sub-inspector was arrested over the alleged sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman with a mental health condition at Ghaziabad police station.
In a separate incident on August 4, two underage girls died while in police custody in Lahore. The circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear.
The round-the-clock deployment of women officers is aimed at strengthening safeguards and ensuring female complainants have direct access to women police personnel whenever they approach a station for assistance.
