Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced plans to provide 100,000 electric bikes to students across the province this year, as part of the government’s efforts to improve access to education and ease transportation difficulties.
The announcement came during a ceremony at the University of Sahiwal, where the chief minister distributed Honhaar scholarships to 1,500 students from different educational institutions.
She also distributed 4,700 laptops among male and female students in Sahiwal under the provincial government’s educational support initiatives.
Addressing the gathering, Maryam Nawaz emphasised that financial difficulties should not prevent capable students from continuing their education.
She said the Punjab government was working to expand educational opportunities by providing scholarships, laptops and transport facilities to deserving students.
The chief minister also highlighted the importance of merit-based assistance, maintaining that the government had moved away from a culture of favouritism in allocating educational resources.
According to Maryam Nawaz, provincial funds were being directed towards programmes designed to support students on the basis of merit and help them pursue their academic goals.
She reiterated that equal access to education remained a government priority, particularly for talented young people facing financial constraints.
The proposed distribution of 100,000 electric bikes is intended to make daily travel easier for students and improve their ability to attend educational institutions across Punjab.
The chief minister reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to expanding opportunities for young people through continued investment in education and student welfare.
