Polish Cyclist Completes 1,390km Islamabad-Khunjerab Expedition

Jarida Report

Polish cyclist Sławomir Strzelczyk has completed a 1,390-kilometre bicycle journey from Islamabad to Khunjerab Pass, an expedition aimed at promoting Pakistan-Poland friendship, tourism and cultural exchange.

The Polish Embassy in Islamabad said Ambassador Maciej Pisarski met Strzelczyk following the completion of his journey and congratulated him on the achievement.

The Pakistan-Poland Friendship Cycle Expedition 2026 began from Faisal Mosque in Islamabad on July 26 and took Strzelczyk through some of northern Pakistan’s most dramatic mountain landscapes.

His route passed through Abbottabad, Besham, Chilas, Gilgit, Hunza, Gulmit, Passu and Sost before ending at Khunjerab Pass, one of the highest international border crossings in the world.

The expedition provided an opportunity to showcase Pakistan’s mountain scenery, cultural diversity and hospitality while encouraging foreign cyclists and adventure travellers to explore the country.

According to the Polish Embassy, the journey also celebrated the longstanding relationship between the two countries and demonstrated how sport and adventure tourism can contribute to greater cultural understanding.

Strzelczyk’s 1,390km ride ultimately brought together the expedition’s two principal objectives: highlighting Pakistan as an adventure-tourism destination and strengthening people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Poland.
