A 25-year-old man allegedly shot dead his estranged wife and three members of her family before taking his own life in Lahore’s Chohang area on Tuesday morning, police said.
The incident occurred in Barkat Colony, where the suspect, identified as Imran Shaukat, reportedly arrived at his in-laws’ residence carrying a rifle.
According to police, Imran had married Samia around six months ago, but she had returned to her parents’ home following a dispute between the couple.
Investigators said Imran went to the house and asked Samia to return with him. When she refused, he allegedly shot her in the head.
Police said the suspect then opened fire on other members of the family, killing his father-in-law Ali Khan, mother-in-law Shamaila and brother-in-law Zeeshan.
After allegedly killing the four family members, Imran died by suicide, according to police.
Police personnel subsequently arrived at the scene and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shootings.
The bodies of the five deceased were transferred to Jinnah Hospital Lahore for post-mortem examinations and other legal formalities.
