New Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Members Take Oath as 5 Year Term Begins

Jarida Report

The newly elected members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly were sworn in on Monday during the inaugural session at the Assembly Hall in Gilgit, formally beginning a new five-year legislative term.

The oath-taking followed the announcement of final election results by Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz Khan on June 17, nearly 10 days after polling.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) emerged as the largest party with 11 seats, followed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which secured six seats.

The Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party became the third-largest parliamentary group after four independent winners joined the party following the elections. The Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen won one seat, while independents backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) secured two seats.
