Jemima Goldsmith, former wife of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, has called on the British government to speak out over his treatment in detention and press for his fundamental rights to be upheld.
In a post on X on Monday, Jemima urged Pakistani authorities to comply with directions issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan concerning Imran’s medical care and contact with his family.
“Pakistan [must] comply with its own Supreme Court; restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights,” she said.
Addressing senior British officials, Jemima asked: “How much longer will Britain remain silent?”
She alleged that Imran, who has been imprisoned for three years, had faced prolonged isolation and restrictions on access to his family, lawyers, doctors and books. She also claimed his family had been unable to maintain regular contact with him for nearly 10 months.
Referring to the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, Jemima argued that international human rights standards prohibit prolonged solitary confinement exceeding 15 consecutive days.
She also cited the Supreme Court’s directions concerning comprehensive medical treatment, access to Imran’s personal physician, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons.
“Yet those orders are being defied,” she said, describing the situation as “a human-rights emergency.”
Jemima maintained that the issue had moved beyond Pakistan’s domestic political disputes and urged the British government to raise its concerns “publicly and unequivocally.”
