First Baby Girl Born in the UK from Womb Transplant

Jarida Report

In a groundbreaking medical achievement, a baby girl named Amy was born on February 27, 2025, at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in London, marking the first birth in the UK following a womb transplant. Her mother, Grace Davidson, 36, was born without a functioning womb due to Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome. In February 2023, Grace received a uterus transplant from her older sister, Amy Purdie, 42, who had completed her own family. The transplant surgery was performed at the Oxford Transplant Centre by a team led by Professor Richard Smith. Following successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment, one of the embryos was implanted, leading to Amy’s birth via Caesarean section. This milestone offers hope to women with similar conditions and highlights advancements in reproductive medicine.
