A judicial magistrate on Wednesday granted four-day physical remand of a suspended assistant sub-inspector (ASI) to police in connection with the alleged rape of a mentally challenged woman inside Ghaziabad Police Station.
The development comes a day after Lahore Police suspended the entire staff of Ghaziabad Police Station over alleged administrative lapses and poor supervision following the arrest of ASI Imran, who is accused of sexually assaulting the woman on the police station premises.
The suspended ASI was produced before Judicial Magistrate Iram Yousaf, where the investigating officer sought a 14-day physical remand, arguing that further custody was necessary to investigate the allegations and gather additional evidence.
After hearing the prosecution’s arguments, the court partially accepted the request and handed the suspect over to police on a four-day physical remand for further investigation.
