Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has dismissed criticism over a series of broken election promises, rejecting calls to apologise and insisting his government’s policy changes were in the national interest.
Speaking to Sky News Sunday Agenda, Albanese described as “nonsense” suggestions that he had failed to be upfront with voters, despite criticism over changes to positions on negative gearing, capital gains tax, housing, superannuation and energy.
Rather than apologising, the prime minister defended the government’s shift in policy, arguing that changing economic conditions had required a different approach.
“What I’m doing here, is what I was elected to do, which was to do the right thing for the nation,” Albanese said.
