Punjab Introduces Pakistan’s First Fully Electric Road Sweeper Truck

Jarida Report

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated what officials describe as Pakistan’s first fully electric road sweeper truck, introducing a new initiative aimed at improving road cleanliness while reducing environmental pollution and maintenance costs.

The chief minister inspected the vehicle during the inauguration ceremony and received a detailed briefing on its features and planned operations.

According to officials, the electric mechanical sweeper will initially be deployed on the Lahore Ring Road, where it will be used for road sweeping and washing.

The modern vehicle is equipped with advanced cleaning technology, including the ability to collect water from road surfaces, a feature officials described as being introduced for the first time in such a sweeper in Pakistan.

Authorities said the fully electric truck can operate for up to 70 kilometres on a single charge, allowing it to undertake road-cleaning operations without relying on conventional fuel.

Officials highlighted that the vehicle produces no direct carbon emissions during operation, making it a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional diesel-powered cleaning trucks.

The electric sweeper is also expected to help reduce roadside dust and noise pollution, contributing to cleaner urban surroundings.

In addition to its environmental benefits, the new technology is expected to lower operating expenses by reducing fuel consumption and maintenance requirements.

The Punjab government hopes the initiative will make road-cleaning services more efficient, economical and environmentally sustainable as part of its efforts to modernise urban sanitation infrastructure.
