Saudi Arabia Says Houthi Cruise Missile Targeting Riyadh Region Intercepted

Jarida Report

The Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen announced on Saturday that its air defence systems had intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi group towards the Riyadh region.

Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki al-Maliki confirmed the interception in a statement posted on X.

“Air defenses intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile launched by the terrorist Houthi militia toward the Riyadh region,” al-Maliki said.

The announcement comes amid intensifying hostilities between the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis, raising concerns over renewed cross-border attacks and regional security.

Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government since 2015, following the Houthis’ takeover of the capital, Sanaa, and other parts of the country in 2014.

The latest reported interception marks another development in the long-running conflict, which has involved repeated military confrontations between the coalition and Houthi forces.

The coalition did not provide further details about the missile’s intended target, the location of its interception or whether any debris caused damage or injuries.
