Iran has warned that it would “black out the entire region” if the United States launched strikes on its power plants, escalating tensions amid renewed concerns over a possible military confrontation, according to two regional officials.
The warning follows comments by US President Donald Trump, who recently said he had considered a large-scale military operation against Iran before deciding to pursue diplomacy after appeals from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
According to one Gulf official, Iran warned that any US attack on its energy infrastructure would be met with retaliatory measures targeting electricity supplies across Gulf countries.
“Iran threatened to black out the Gulf, country by country, if Trump attacked its power plants,” the official said.
A second regional official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that similar messages had been conveyed.
The latest warning comes as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation following weeks of heightened military tensions between Washington and Tehran.
