Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the evolving situation in the Middle East during a telephone conversation, according to a statement issued by the Indian government on Thursday.
The leaders exchanged views on recent regional developments and reviewed progress in the India-Israel strategic partnership, reaffirming their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors.
According to New Delhi, both leaders agreed to remain in close contact as regional developments continue to unfold.
The conversation comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz following recent military confrontations between the United States and Iran.
Washington and Tehran signed a framework agreement on June 18 and began negotiations on a broader accord. However, the talks later stalled over disagreements relating to security guarantees and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Regional tensions escalated further last month after the United States launched strikes inside Iran, prompting Tehran to retaliate by targeting US military facilities and equipment in several countries, including Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait.
