Multiple people were killed and at least one other was injured in a mass shooting at a residence in Prospect Hill, North Carolina, on Wednesday, authorities said.
The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded shortly before 8 a.m. local time to reports of a shooting on Brooks Road, where they discovered several victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
One injured person was taken to Duke University Hospital, while multiple victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) said it had joined local law enforcement and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in investigating the incident.
Authorities said crime scene investigators were collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses while officials worked to notify the victims’ next of kin.
Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public, adding that the shooting appears to have been confined to the property.
Officials have not yet disclosed the number of people killed or injured, nor have they released information about a suspect or a possible motive.
