The death toll from Venezuela’s twin earthquakes has climbed to 4,118, while 16,740 people have been injured and thousands remain displaced, according to an update released on Friday by National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez.
Rodriguez said 86,794 families have received humanitarian assistance since the June 24 disaster. He added that 6,462 people have been rescued, while 856 buildings have been damaged and 190 have collapsed.
Relief operations have continued to expand, with authorities distributing 9,766 metric tons of food and more than 13.9 million litres of water. Nearly 30,000 people have received medical treatment, while 89 temporary camps remain in operation for displaced residents.
According to Rodriguez, more than 30,000 emergency personnel, 29,843 volunteers and 3,454 international rescue workers are involved in the relief effort. Authorities have also recorded 1,171 aftershocks since the two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5, struck the country just 39 seconds apart on June 24.
