At least one person was killed after a small aircraft crashed into a single-family home in Ganderkesee, northwestern Germany, on Saturday, according to local authorities and media reports.
Emergency crews continued searching for a second person believed to have been on board the aircraft. Firefighters used a turntable ladder to inspect the roof of the damaged house during the operation.
Police said the deceased victim had not initially been recovered from the wreckage, and the person’s identity had not yet been confirmed. Rescue and recovery efforts were described as highly complex and continued for several hours.
The aircraft crashed shortly after 11 a.m. local time (0900 GMT) after reportedly losing altitude for reasons that remain under investigation.
The plane struck the roof of a residential property near the city of Bremen.
According to authorities, the occupants of the house were not at home when the aircraft crashed, and no injuries were reported on the ground.
As a precaution, residents living within a 100-metre radius of the crash site were evacuated, while electricity to the affected street was temporarily disconnected. Police said there was no ongoing risk to the wider public.
