The US government has allowed artificial intelligence company Anthropic to restore access to its Mythos 5 model for a limited group of trusted users after previously restricting it over national security concerns, media reports said on Friday.
According to a letter seen by NBC News, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick informed the company that the model could be made available again to a select group of customers and partners.
Anthropic said in a post on X that the government had authorised the redeployment of Mythos 5, its most advanced cybersecurity model, to a group of US organisations responsible for operating and defending critical infrastructure.
The company said the restoration would cover around 100 organisations, including government agencies and private-sector entities, according to people familiar with the matter.
Mythos 5 is designed to identify cyber vulnerabilities and support defensive cybersecurity operations.
Two weeks ago, the Commerce Department invoked export control authorities to require Anthropic to suspend access to Mythos 5 and its consumer-focused Fable 5 model, citing national security concerns.
