UK, Canada and Australia Condemn Israel for Closing Gaza Aid Worker Probe

Jarida Report

Britain, Canada and Australia have condemned as “shameful” Israel’s decision not to pursue a criminal investigation into the 2024 Israeli strike that killed seven World Central Kitchen aid workers in Gaza.

The victims — three British citizens, a dual US-Canadian national, a Polish citizen, an Australian and a Palestinian — were killed when Israeli drones struck their vehicle convoy after they had helped oversee the unloading of a food aid shipment.

Israel’s military subsequently described the attack as a “tragic mistake.”

“In the more than two years since, we have been pressing for Israel to swiftly and thoroughly consider the case and hold those responsible to account,” Britain, Canada and Australia said in a joint statement.

The three governments strongly criticised the Israeli military’s August 19 announcement that it would not proceed with criminal investigations into the strike.

“The announcement by the IDF on 19 August 2026 that it would not pursue criminal investigations into this strike, without further explanation, is shameful,” the statement said.

The April 2024 attack sparked international outrage and intensified concerns about the safety of humanitarian personnel operating in Gaza.

The three countries also criticised the timing of Israel’s announcement, which came on World Humanitarian Day.

“Announcing this decision on World Humanitarian Day, while the world honoured the courage and sacrifice of humanitarians, was particularly egregious,” they said.
