Syrian Foreign Minister Visits Pakistan for Talks on Bilateral Ties

Jarida Report

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani met his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar in Islamabad for talks focusing on bilateral cooperation and regional developments, according to an official statement.

Shaibani arrived in the Pakistani capital on Wednesday night for a two-day official visit, his first to the country since the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad government in December 2024.

The Syrian foreign minister, accompanied by his delegation, held discussions with Dar at the Foreign Ministry. He is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other senior Pakistani officials during his stay.

The visit is particularly significant as it marks the first trip by a Syrian foreign minister to Pakistan in 19 years.

The last such visit took place in 2007, when then-Syrian foreign minister Walid al-Mouallem travelled to Pakistan.

Diplomatic engagement between the two countries has increased in recent months. A Pakistani delegation visited Damascus in June, where it held talks with Shaibani.

The latest meetings are expected to explore opportunities for strengthening Pakistan-Syria relations while exchanging views on regional and international developments.
