A resolution calling for Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) to be granted the status of an interim province of Pakistan was passed unanimously on Thursday.
The resolution calls for Gilgit-Baltistan to be given representation in the National Assembly and the Senate after being declared an interim province. It also seeks representation for the region in national financial institutions.
Lawmakers urged the federal government to grant interim provincial status through a constitutional amendment or an Act of Parliament.
The resolution further states that Gilgit-Baltistan should be incorporated into the Constitution of Pakistan through the required constitutional changes.
It also emphasises that granting the region interim constitutional provincial status should not affect Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir dispute.
