Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have unveiled their candidates for the 2026 Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, setting the stage for a competitive electoral contest across the region.
PTI announced 33 candidates, saying it had chosen to field young and ideological workers instead of relying on traditional electables. The party said its Parliamentary Board approved candidates for 31 constituencies after extensive consultations, while decisions on the Lachhrat and Mirpur City seats have been deferred.
PTI AJK President Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi forwarded the Parliamentary Board’s recommendations to party chairman Barrister Gohar for final approval. Barrister Gohar said the party’s final list of candidates will be issued on July 2.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) announced 35 candidates for the elections. The party said it has nominated candidates for constituencies across Mirpur, Bhimber, Kotli, Bagh, Sidhanoti, Poonch, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, as well as Jammu Muhajir and Valley seats.
