The father of slain entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali has claimed that his son knew the people he was going to meet had influence “above the police station”, as he raised fresh questions about the circumstances surrounding the 25-year-old’s killing.
Speaking on an ARY News programme, Mir Hussain Ali alleged that his son had been deliberately called to a location as part of a plan before being subjected to severe torture.
He claimed the nature of the killing suggested that professionals were involved and said Mir Raza was aware that those he was going to meet were influential.
Mir Hussain also referred to medical findings in the case, claiming they indicated that his son had been rendered unconscious before being tortured.
He said the Sindh inspector general of police had subsequently referred to an error in the report but questioned why authorities had not held a press conference to clarify the matter.
Expressing frustration over the handling of the investigation, Mir Hussain said he had told the provincial interior minister to “build our graves as well and declare us suicides too”.
Despite his concerns, he said the family continued to have faith in the police following the formation of a new investigation team. According to Mir Hussain, Amir Farooqui’s team was the first to properly listen to the family’s concerns, 12 days into the case.
He also demanded that Kamran Qureshi of Gulistan-e-Johar be formally included in the investigation rather than merely suspended.
Mir Hussain alleged that Qureshi had tampered with evidence and said he should therefore be questioned as part of the murder investigation.
The father’s claims remain allegations, and investigators have yet to establish publicly who was responsible for Mir Raza’s killing or the motive behind it.
