Petition Challenges Emergency, Governor’s Rule In KP High Court

Jarida Report

PESHAWAR: A write petition has been filed in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) challenging the imposition of an emergency and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, arguing that the measures are unconstitutional and unlawful.

The petition was filed by lawyer Salman Khan, who named the president, prime minister and provincial governor as respondents.

The petitioner argued that the measures were imposed with mala fide intentions and violated fundamental rights and the province’s democratic mandate. He asked the court to declare the emergency and Governor’s Rule unlawful and set aside the relevant measures.

The petition also seeks suspension of the proclamation imposing Governor’s Rule until the court reaches a final decision.

It further states that road closures following the imposition of the measures have caused difficulties for the public and prevented people from accessing the Peshawar High Court and district courts.

The petition comes amid heightened political tensions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the imposition of the emergency and Governor’s Rule.
