MANAMA: Foreign workers in Bahrain can now take up temporary work with another employer for up to 90 days without transferring their existing work permits, under a regulatory change announced by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA).
The reform allows businesses to hire eligible expatriate workers already employed in Bahrain for short-term assignments, offering greater flexibility in meeting temporary staffing requirements without recruiting workers from abroad.
The decision was issued on September 22 and announced by the LMRA on September 28. Immigration law firm Fragomen published an alert on October 6 outlining the implications of the change for employers and foreign workers.
The arrangement is subject to approval by the LMRA, written consent from the employee and agreement from both the existing and temporary employers.
