KARACHI: Pakistan received $3.656 billion in workers’ remittances during August, an increase of 16.5% compared with $3.138bn in the same month last year, according to fresh State Bank of Pakistan data.
Inflows were also slightly higher than July’s $3.630bn. During the first two months of fiscal year 2026-27, Pakistan received about $7.3bn, up 14.7% from $6.4bn during the corresponding period last year.
Saudi Arabia remained the largest source, sending $873.5 million in August, followed by the UAE at $749.8 million, the UK at $563.7 million, and the United States at $308.9 million. Pakistan received a record $41.6bn in workers’ remittances during the previous fiscal year.
The government has set a target of $44bn in remittances for FY27. Some Pakistani investors operating in Gulf countries have also told Dawn that uncertainty generated by the ongoing regional conflict has prompted them to liquidate assets and transfer funds home.
