The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Tuesday issued notices to four individuals over alleged “false, fabricated and malicious propaganda” targeting Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and his son in connection with the murder of Wafflix owner Mir Raza Ali.
The notices, issued under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), summoned Syed Abdullah, Amin Qureshi, Bilal Warsi and Obaid Qureshi to the NCCIA’s Karachi office on August 13.
The four have been directed to appear before the investigating officer at 11:30am, carrying their original CNICs and any evidence or documents relevant to their defence. They have also been asked to record their statements and submit their digital devices as part of the investigation.
The NCCIA warned that failure to comply with the notices could result in legal proceedings before the relevant court.
The action follows a complaint lodged with the agency by Memon on August 9 through his lawyer, Advocate Syeda Malaika Naqvi, concerning social media posts that allegedly linked the provincial minister and his son to Mir Raza’s death.
The complaint identified four Facebook accounts and pages — Muhajir Community, Khan Zada in ALTAFI LUSHKAR Group, Karachi Beauty and Karachi Stories — and included screenshots of the disputed material.
According to the complaint, posts and videos circulating online alleged that a Gulistan-e-Jauhar guesthouse, where Mir Raza was purportedly tortured and killed, belonged to Memon.
The allegations concerning Memon and his son have not been established, and the NCCIA’s action relates to its investigation of the social media material.
