The family of Mir Raza Ali, the late owner of a local waffle chain, has challenged the composition of a newly formed medical board tasked with conducting his exhumation, leading to a delay in the proceedings.
The objection comes a day after a judicial magistrate ordered the exhumation of the 25-year-old’s body and directed that a fresh post-mortem be carried out following the family’s concerns over alleged inconsistencies in the initial autopsy.
In an application submitted to the court on Friday, the family said the original eight-member medico-legal board, which they claim was approved by the court, had been replaced overnight by a five-member panel. They argued that the change violated the court’s order and requested that the exhumation be suspended until the original board was reinstated.
Speaking to reporters at the cemetery, Mir Raza’s father, Mir Hussain, said the family would not allow the exhumation to proceed under the newly constituted board.
“We do not recognise this five-member board. We recognise the eight-member board constituted by the court,” he said, alleging that the board had been altered without transparency and expressing concerns that the changes were intended to influence the investigation.
He also criticised the police investigation, claiming the authorities had taken inconsistent positions throughout the case.
Mir Raza Ali was found dead near Gulistan-e-Jauhar last week after allegedly being abducted from PECHS. Police suspect he was tortured before being fatally shot, and investigations into the case remain ongoing.
