Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has promoted Lieutenant General Aamer Raza, the Chief of General Staff of the Pakistan Army, to the rank of four-star general and appointed him as Commander National Strategic Command, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced on Friday.
According to the PMO, the prime minister congratulated General Aamer Raza on his promotion and new appointment, expressing confidence in his ability to carry out the responsibilities of the office.
The post of Commander National Strategic Command was established under the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which amended Article 243 of the Constitution.
The amendment abolished the long-standing office of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and created the positions of Chief of Defence Forces and Commander National Strategic Command. It also expanded the constitutional authority of Pakistan’s senior military leadership and introduced constitutional protections for five-star generals.
