Libya’s National Oil Corporation said on Tuesday that production and operations at three oil sites had been suspended after members of the Petroleum Facilities Guard shut a valve on the Al-Hamada–Zawiya shipping pipeline in western Libya.
The Petroleum Facilities Guard is a state-affiliated security force responsible for protecting the country’s critical oil and energy infrastructure.
According to the corporation, closing the valve caused pressure to rise suddenly along production lines, forcing operations at the three affected sites to stop.
The National Oil Corporation warned that it may have to declare “force majeure” if the pipeline valve remains closed or if similar disruptions affect other oil fields.
It also cautioned that prolonged shutdowns could have wider economic consequences, reducing state revenues and potentially affecting Libya’s ability to meet its financial obligations.
