Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif visited Allama Iqbal International Airport on Sunday to review passenger facilities and ongoing expansion and renovation projects, according to the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA).
During the inspection, Asif directed airport authorities to introduce measures aimed at speeding up the clearance of female passengers, including the establishment of additional search counters to reduce waiting times.
The minister inspected the airport’s newly constructed immigration area and reviewed facilities available to passengers in both the international and domestic departure lounges.
According to the PAA, Asif also examined infrastructure upgrades and renovation work being carried out as part of efforts to improve passenger services at one of the country’s busiest airports.
He directed airport management to maintain high service standards and ensure that facilities remained convenient and efficient for travellers while construction work continued.
Traffic congestion outside the terminal was also discussed during the visit. Asif instructed authorities to give priority to completing the expansion of the departure drop-off lane, which is intended to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion around the terminal building.
The defence minister also reviewed construction underway in the domestic departure area and stressed that the project should be completed according to schedule to minimise disruption and provide improved facilities for passengers.
The PAA said the visit formed part of the government’s oversight of ongoing development work at Lahore airport aimed at expanding capacity and improving the overall passenger experience.
