At least eight people were killed and two others injured on Sunday when two groups belonging to the Chandio community exchanged fire over a longstanding feud in Dadu’s katcha area, police said.
The deadly confrontation took place in village Sheikh Gulab, within the jurisdiction of Jalhu police station.
Following the shooting, Dadu SSP retired Capt Saddam Hussain Khaskheli ordered a heavy police contingent to the area. Officers cordoned off the locality and brought the situation under control.
Police attributed the violence to an old personal enmity between the two groups. Khaskheli said weapons used during the clash had been recovered and raids were underway to arrest those involved.
The eight people killed were identified as Fida Hussain, Zulfiqar alias Watni, Mohammad Bachal, Sultan, Manzoor, Irshad alias Hajin, Gulbahar and Didar Chandio.
Two others, Ghulam Qadir Chandio and Mumtaz Chandio, were rescued from the scene with injuries and taken to hospital for treatment.
The bodies of those killed were also shifted to hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Police said operations in the area were continuing as investigators sought to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence.
