Israeli Forces Raid Southern Syrian Town, Detain Wounded Man

Jarida Report

Israeli forces raided the southern Syrian town of Jabata al-Khashab on Wednesday and detained a young man after shooting him in the foot, according to Syria’s state news agency SANA.

SANA reported that Israeli troops entered the town, located in the northern countryside of Quneitra, before the man was wounded by gunfire and taken into custody.

No additional information was immediately available about the circumstances leading to the shooting, the reason for his detention or his condition.

The incident came two days after the Israeli military killed another man in southern Syria. Israel said the man had attempted to enter a military post within what it described as a “security area.”

Israeli military activity in southern Syria has expanded since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024, with Israeli forces moving into the demilitarised buffer zone near the occupied Golan Heights and taking up positions in surrounding areas.

Damascus has called for Israeli forces to withdraw from territory entered during that period and has reiterated its commitment to the 1974 disengagement agreement.

Israel maintains that its military presence and operations in the area are necessary for security reasons.
