A senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that Tehran would target US military bases and American vessels across the region if Washington launched a ground invasion of Iran.
Ali Fadavi, head of the advisory group to the IRGC commander-in-chief, issued the warning during an appearance on Iranian state television late Sunday amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington.
“If the Americans launch a ground attack, then we will target every location related to the Americans, American bases and every vessel related to the Americans,” Fadavi said.
The IRGC commander argued that Washington responds to military pressure, saying Americans understand “missiles hitting their warships” and military bases.
Fadavi also claimed that Iran is producing military equipment faster than it is being used, adding that the country’s capabilities have increased significantly compared with previous rounds of conflict.
Addressing the Strait of Hormuz, Fadavi said Iran and Oman should establish and enforce rules governing the strategic waterway. He said such regulations had already been prepared and were being implemented.
He warned that any additional American vessels deployed to the region could become vulnerable in the event of further military escalation.
Fadavi also rejected accusations that Iran had attacked Muslim countries, arguing that Tehran had instead targeted US military installations located within those states.
His comments come amid increased US military deployments to the Middle East, including additional naval and amphibious forces and strengthened air and missile defences at American facilities in the region.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high, with Iranian officials repeatedly warning that US bases and naval assets could be targeted in retaliation for attacks on Iranian territory.
