Senior security and defence officials from Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan held high-level talks with Iranian leaders in Tehran on Monday, discussing regional security challenges, the ongoing US-Iran negotiations and efforts to strengthen cooperation amid continuing tensions in the Middle East.
Turkish National Intelligence Organisation chief Ibrahim Kalin, Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir participated in meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei.
According to information obtained from security sources, the discussions focused on addressing security challenges affecting Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen and the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important maritime route for international energy supplies.
The officials emphasised the importance of regional countries taking greater responsibility for resolving security challenges through cooperation, mutual trust and coordinated diplomatic efforts.
The talks also addressed collective resilience and joint deterrence as potential approaches to strengthening regional stability and reducing the risks associated with continuing conflicts.
Negotiations between the United States and Iran featured prominently in the discussions, reflecting the wider diplomatic efforts underway to manage tensions following the US-Israeli military confrontation with Tehran.
The participants also discussed strengthening cooperation under the Mecca Defence Alliance, a regional security arrangement reportedly established in August between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
The discussions highlighted the importance of closer coordination, solidarity and collective security among regional partners, particularly in responding to emerging threats and preventing further instability.
Kalin’s visit formed part of continuing high-level diplomatic and security contacts between Türkiye and Iran at a time when Ankara has been pursuing an active mediation role in regional disputes.
The meetings took place against the backdrop of tensions arising from the US-Israel war with Iran, as well as continuing security concerns across several parts of the Middle East.
The participation of senior Pakistani, Saudi and Turkish officials alongside Iran’s political and security leadership underscored efforts to maintain direct communication between regional governments despite the complex security environment.
The discussions reflected a shared emphasis on regional dialogue and cooperation as diplomatic efforts continue to address unresolved conflicts and security challenges across the Middle East.
