Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that any future regional security arrangement must include Iran, stressing that lasting stability cannot be achieved by excluding the country.
In a statement, Araghchi said a new security framework should be based on the participation of all regional states and collective cooperation. He added that sustainable security, economic progress and regional stability could only be achieved through mutual engagement.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said the primary objective of the proposed agreement with the United States is to secure an immediate end to the conflict.
Baqaei said the memorandum of understanding currently under discussion contains no provisions related to Iran’s nuclear programme and could be signed within the next one or two days.
Despite those remarks, uncertainty remains over the timing of the agreement. According to a report by Al Arabiya, Washington and Tehran are expected to sign the memorandum later on Sunday.
