The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is preparing to approach the Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court in an attempt to prevent the PML-N from forming a government until elections are completed in the remaining constituencies of the region, party sources said.
According to the sources, the PPP’s legal team has drafted a petition seeking a restraining order against government formation, and the party leadership has approved its filing. The petition is expected to be submitted within the next 48 hours.
The PPP intends to argue that a new government should not be constituted until the AJK Legislative Assembly is complete.
Central to the party’s case is its demand that elections be conducted in the two remaining districts of Poonch Division. PPP sources maintain that without representation from those districts, the assembly remains incomplete.
The party will argue before the court that forming a government before those elections are held would be unconstitutional.
The legal move comes as the PML-N holds consultations on establishing the next AJK government, including discussions over its candidate for prime minister.
Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry earlier said the PML-N had secured 24 seats in the regional elections.
The PPP’s planned court challenge could potentially complicate or delay the PML-N’s efforts to establish the new administration if the court grants the requested restraining order.
