The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a prolonged spell of rain, wind and thunderstorms across upper and central parts of the country from August 17 to 21, with intermittent breaks in the wet weather.
In an advisory issued on Sunday, the Met Office said monsoon currents were continuing to penetrate northern Pakistan and were expected to remain active over the next several days.
Weather conditions are likely to become more unsettled with the arrival of a westerly wave over the upper regions from August 17. The interaction between the westerly system and monsoon moisture is expected to produce widespread rainfall across several parts of the country.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms is forecast from the evening of August 16 through August 21, although conditions may ease periodically.
The affected areas are expected to include Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur.
The PMD said some locations could experience heavy rainfall, particularly where stronger thunderstorms develop during the five-day spell.
