KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested more than 70 people during a raid on a call centre in Karachi’s PECHS Block 6, ARY News reported.
According to NCCIA Additional Director Tariq Nawaz, the operation was conducted at an office near Tariq Road following allegations that the call centre was involved in online fraud targeting foreign nationals.
The raid resulted in the arrest of the call centre’s owners, managers, super agents and agents, officials said.
The call centre had reportedly been operating for several years and was being run through an organised setup.
In a separate operation earlier, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and NCCIA arrested 275 foreign nationals during a joint raid on an alleged illegal call centre in Islamabad’s I-10 sector.
According to officials, the arrested foreigners included Chinese nationals and citizens of other countries.
The authorities alleged that the management of the Islamabad call centre was involved in producing indecent material, with foreign men and women reportedly recruited for the activity.
The FIA registered a case under the Foreign Act, while the NCCIA booked the suspects under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
Officials said the foreign nationals had entered Pakistan on visit or business visas. Authorities subsequently decided to repatriate 76 of the arrested foreigners, while exit permits were being processed.
